I’m interested in in becoming a heart surgeon but a little bit afraid of persuing it. I’m worried I’ll fail. How difficult is it? Were you scared too when becoming a heart surgeon? How easy is it to find a job? I hope someone can help me thanks.

  1. After med school it takes about 5+ years of a residency and then often a fellowship (so 15 years or so after you graduate from college). “(easiness in )Finding a job” is not something that happens in the realm of the medical professional at that level–all are employed. No one comes out from all that training & is unable to find a position.

  2. becoming a physician is a long road…. but not any harder than any other profession if you are committed to it. so here’s the path to becoming a cardiovascular surgeon
    Undergraduate degree — 4 years
    Medical school — 4 years
General surgery residency — 5 years
    Cardiothoracic Fellowship — 3 years
it is a very long road and you will need to be very focussed… because surgery subspecialties are fairly compentative. The link below briefly describes the fellowship
Don’t let anyone deter you from your path if that is what you want to do… just work hard, stay focussed and keep your dream in mind. do that and you will succeed.
Finding jobs once you are done are easy to find… there continues to be a shortage of most types of doctors… focus more on doing something that you enjoy b/c the job market will be more different than when you started out.. for obvious reasons.
    Best of Luck

  3. If you think you’ll fail, you’re not cut out for it. It takes ego, a superior brain, good judgment and common sense, and raw balls to be a surgeon, especially with the more difficult surgical endeavors.
