My Sister in law’s father had his second heart attack tonight. She said they gave him 7 Nitroglycerin pills before he got to the hospital. I was just wondering what they did. He has had surgery and is doing OK now, the stint they put in the first time got clogged. Thanks in advance.

Nitroglycerin is a "vasodilator." It widens the blood vessels thus helping to correct the imbalance between the flow of oxygen and blood to the heart which occurs during a heart attack. Basically it helps the heart in not having to work so hard by making blood flow easier.
it is a potent coronary as well as other arterial vasodialator there by increasing the blood flow to target organs .
Dilate coronary arteries.
