I know that your heart rate is normally higher if you are anaemic, but when is it dangerously high? I just checked my pulse on my home blood pressure monitor and it was 149. Is this normal if you are anaemic and 38 weeks pregnant?

That is too high. Call your doctor. Anything over 120 is bad.
im not really sure i hope that is normal, but it might be above normal.
Good Luck
Yes, if you are anemic your heart rate will be higher. 149 is high, but don't be too alarmed. Were you at rest or did you just get done doing something (like walking up a flight of stairs)? That would raise your heart rate. Also, I do not trust any electronic vital sign devices. Most of the ones in hospitals are good because they are calibrated regularly, but the ones at home and in grocery stores tend to be off. One high reading is not enough to warrant action. In healthcare, we never go by one reading…. it's always by trends. If your heart rate is consistantly this high, call your doc. If it was an isolated event I wouldn't worry about it.
I also reccommend taking your pulse manually. it's really easy. Just take your first two fingers and apply pressure on the thumb side of your writst on the palm side. You should feel it almost immediately… if you don't try adding a little pressure or decreasing the amount of pressure you are using. If you can't find it, move your fingers around until you do. Then count each beat. Do this for 30 sec. I recommend not looking at the clock, otherwise you will count the seconds. Just look up every so often. when 30 seconds is up multiply by 2 and that's your heart rate. It's kind of a hard procedure to explain by typing, but next time you go to the docs ask the nurse to show you how to do it. Again… one isolated reading means nothing… but if your heart rate is consistanly higher than 120 call the doc.
149 is super high! I'm not sure how much anemia raises it, but the normal range for an adult is 60-100. You may want to call your doctor.
